Inspired by the dramatic legacy of 19th-century restoration, the Cornerstone Dragon pays homage to a pivotal moment in French architectural history. In 1844, celebrated architect Eugène Emmanuel Viollet-le-Duc—renowned even in his early thirties for his meticulous restoration of France’s medieval landmarks—undertook the monumental task of restoring the Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris. Alongside collaborator Jean-Baptiste-Antoine Lassus, Viollet-le-Duc reimagined much of the cathedral’s façade, replacing lost or damaged sculptures with newly envisioned guardians rooted in gothic tradition and myth.
Among them emerged this intrepid little dragon, a whimsical yet protective creature designed to perch at the edges of sacred spaces, warding off evil spirits and misfortune. House Parts captures the essence of that legacy with this finely detailed reproduction—hand-cast in plaster with care and reverence for its historical origin. Each piece carries subtle variations in tone and texture, a signature of its handcrafted nature.
Measuring 5" wide by 5" deep by 6" high, the Cornerstone Dragon is available as a pair of bookends, offering both charm and utility. Whether standing vigil on a bookshelf, gracing a mantel, or anchoring a sacred space, this dragon brings a sense of old-world mystery and protection to any environment.
