A Community Gathering Room by Nocturne

Tucked just down Houdini Way beside Nocturne, the Hill House Parlour is an intimate gathering room designed for small creative experiences, classes, and appointment-based events.

The space is inspired by a playful historical fantasy. Imagine if Marie Antoinette had escaped the guillotine during the French Revolution and disappeared into the forests of Versailles, carrying a few rescued treasures from the palace with her. In this imagined story she becomes a woodland queen, a forest witch, a wandering fairy of moss and candlelight. Hill House Parlour reflects that dream.

The room blends French bistro elegance, rococo charm, and enchanted forest whimsy, creating a setting that feels both intimate and transportive.

Designed for small gatherings of 8 to 10 guests plus a host, the space includes flexible table arrangements that can easily shift to accommodate workshops, salons, book discussions, readings, craft circles, and other appointment-based experiences.

Most importantly, Hill House Parlour exists as a community-focused space. Our goal is to provide Salem’s artists, teachers, and creators with an affordable room where they can host events, share knowledge, and build community without the financial barrier of renting a full venue.

This is not a traditional event venue, rather it is a creative space for small gatherings.

Community Use Guidelines

These guidelines help keep the space accessible, affordable, and sustainable for everyone in our creative community.

Appointment-Based Use Only

Hill House Parlour operates strictly as an appointment-based event space.

All gatherings must have:

• A scheduled start and end time
• Pre-registered attendees
• A defined host or instructor

Drop-in events, open retail sales, or walk-in style events are not permitted.


Capacity

The space is designed for small, intimate gatherings.

Maximum capacity:

10 guests + 1 to 2 hosts

Furniture may be rearranged to suit your event but must be returned to its original layout at the end of your booking.


Community Pricing Model

Hill House Parlour exists to support artists and educators in our community.

To keep the space affordable:

• Hosts pay a reservation fee for the room only
• Hosts manage their own ticketing and event promotion
• Hosts keep 100% of their ticket revenue

Nocturne does not take a percentage of ticket sales for independently hosted events.


Ticketing Responsibility

If you are renting the space independently, you are responsible for your own ticketing.

Common platforms include:

• Eventbrite
• Luma
• Partiful
• Shopify (if you operate a store)

Nocturne will not manage ticketing or registration for independently hosted events.

If an event is co-hosted or presented by Nocturne, ticketing may be handled through Nocturne.


Event Approval

All events must be approved before booking.

We review proposals to ensure they align with:

• The size of the space
• The appointment-based nature of the room
• The spirit of creativity and community that defines Nocturne

Submitting a request does not guarantee approval.


Setup and Cleanup

Hosts are responsible for:

• Arriving within their scheduled time
• Setting up the room
• Resetting furniture
• Cleaning surfaces
• Removing personal materials

Your booking time should include setup and cleanup.


Respect for the Space

Hill House Parlour is part of a working creative business.

Please treat the space with care.

Not permitted:

• Glitter, confetti, or difficult-to-clean materials
• Open flames 
• Alcohol sales without prior discussion
• Excessive noise


Decor

The room will already be fully decorated in the Hill House style.

Additional decorations must be temporary and removable.

Nothing may be nailed, taped, or permanently attached to walls or furniture.


Marketing

Hosts are encouraged to promote their events.

Cancellations

Reservation fees are non-refundable unless the space must close due to unforeseen circumstances.

Hosts are responsible for managing their own attendee refunds if they cancel their event.
