About the Artist

The Iron Bride Designs by Kimberly Ballou, previously known as Winter Island Trading Co., is a woman-owned business led by a Salem-born local artist. Kimberly works with fellow Salem creatives while personally designing and handcrafting many of the brand’s pieces.

Rooted in Salem history, the Ballou family has longstanding ties to the city, with ancestors connected to historic local businesses including Waldo & Stearns Apothecary and The East India Inn & Tea House. Kimberly’s ancestor Sally (Sarah) Ballou was also hired as the first employee to operate the House of the Seven Gables Tea House, with later generations of the family working in Salem hospitals.

Today, The Iron Bride Designs continues that connection to Salem through handcrafted jewelry, chainmail, Renaissance-inspired accessories, and custom creations made locally in Salem, Massachusetts.
