About the Artist:
Sabrina Jacqui Levin, known as SJL, refers to herself as a fashion artist—a title that best captures both sides of her creative coin. Her work embodies the “fashion fantasy of it all” and is rooted in avant-garde maximalism, while remaining socially conscious and sustainably made. She predominantly works with vintage, up-cycled, recycled, and deadstock materials.
Recently, Levin has been repurposing her older works into new creations, maintaining an environmentally friendly loop by reusing already sustainably sourced materials. This practice not only strengthens her sustainability efforts but also keeps her creatively challenged and helps ease the financial strain of producing her art. Because making this work—it’s expensive.
Her practice extends beyond wearable pieces. Levin develops fully realized concepts for collections, often expressed solely through illustration for now, given the high cost of production.
She is also a painter, where the “fashion fantasy of it all” reaches its most imaginative form. These works often depict fantastical figures and concepts too otherworldly to exist in real life, but stunning as works of art. Several of these paintings are currently available for purchase, and she accepts commissions of any size and concept.
In addition, Levin has expanded her creative repertoire to include poetry—with a touch of photography, though primarily words. She self-published her first book last year, which is available for purchase.
Based in Salem, MA, she is open to custom works, commissions, and collaborations. Inquiries can be directed to sabrinajacquilevin@gmail.com or through the envelope icon on her site.
The Full Story
Levin often says her journey began the second she entered the world—perhaps even before. Her mother’s innate sense of style left its mark on her DNA, instilling an early fascination with fashion. By the age of two, she was already sketching her first “fashions,” laying the foundation for a lifelong creative path.
